Cactus with Flowers

Yesterday I went by my mother is law's house, Mrs. Emma, who is usually very friendly with me. Almost always we talk about everyday things like food or plants and sometimes she usually gives me one of her plants to put on our garden.
But yesterday something happened that I was not expecting, as soon as she saw us coming she immediately entered the house again.
Suspected that something strange happened, as she usually does not do that.
This was the case. She suspiciously with its small body went in and pulled something. It was a plant that she showed me proudly.
I thought she would give it to me, but her intentions were quite other, she just wanted to brag about their cactus rare flower that looked spectacular.
Surely it was just a regular cactus you can find at the store or what have you.
She, however, that if she had paid for such waste, now came to us proudly displaying her cactus, her poor cactus with its magnificent and huge flower.
I could not contain my envy and I asked, knowing the answer ... Is that for us? And she, with air snob said "noooo" and held the tiny pot from her hand.
She did not let me touch it, just look at it from far distance. I gradually managed to get close to the pot and tap the flower as my prize. She did not see it that way and did not show any interest in changing her opinion.
She cling to the cactus as her life and refused to give me the least a slice or a name.
After all this story, what are some things salvageable, Emma is a good person, it comes in-law and therefore in good agent that kind of category (this is a joke, but the same must be said, as a good son I am) .
The other, the cactus and its flowers really were and are beautiful and strange and I ask anyone who saw the photo accompanying this plant to recognize it and tell me what it is called, I had never seen anything so plain like a cactus to have something so beautiful.

Responsible Consumption

During the last century, humans have created a lot of things. Our modern scienceinvented lots of new gadgets and technology made life easier and undetected-lyshorter. With the progress of these new technologies has brought us, most people now have the buying power to purchase each piece of equipment and luxury that a person needs.

The purchase excess has become a habit unnecessary since. Buy this and trade, even for those gadgets that are not of practical use, and just for show and why it shows. Occasionally I meet people who are like them.

Admittedly, I have again become a person. At one point, I have 4 computers, mobile phones and many others. You'd be surprised I'm not a lover of phone andnot even use my cell phone every day except when I have to travel.

excessive consumption is a real problem that must be fought personally. You must fight from buying too much and consume the amount normally does.

The posters, however, the current market, everyone is a temptation to consume more living than the average normal of things, with all the misleading TV ads, technologically improved and sales promotions.

We all have to start practicing responsible use now. And we have to startourselves.

Caring for the Earth NOW!

The energy-saving lamps are now a fashion, at home and for almost all / as the / as I know .... Fortunately.

The theme of energy saving is that, for example in our country some of the electricity comes from hydropower plants (water), which is a natural resource and as such, although it was previously believed renewable, we now know that it is not.

Ladies and gentlemen, water is a treasure that can end some day if not used properly.

The climate changes we are switching to us and nothing is what it was.

Therefore, sometimes with simple things such as buying low energy light bulbs, each of us gives a "small step for man, one giant leap for mankind."

The same happens to recycle bottles, glass, cans, cardboard, paper, nylon, etc..is only a matter of instead of a package to waste, have two. One with what is biodegradable and that soon the land alone will take care of him and the other withproducts that are not and someone can come back to be reused.

We must trust that each of these mini actions make a difference and you must believe me when I say that if each of our actions have changed to mini climate andthe world in which we are, why we can not make mini good deeds take us back to the same place?

The fact is that if you can, no matter if we take one million years to do so, future generations of our efforts need to exist in this world. And the "D" day is today.

Today take everything you can and start your work "clean" and protecting the environment in 10 years, 5 years or 3 you may notice that at least some minimum has changed in a day will see the greatest changes: notice that you've changed and that you care for the world to come.

The Land Ethic

Aldo Leopold, followed the path begun by the first and ecology helped raise the level of philosophy and literature.

What strikes me most of his writings is how much they agree with my own reflections, as well as the tremendous force of today and the problems and ideas to offer, despite the previous lack thereof had and having been written in the mid to late 40's. In his work, and a beautiful literature more or less theoretical and philosophical, we can find many life experiences and totally personal, practical and realistic.
Actually, all his work is to explain, justify and emphasize the need for humanity totake a further step in its ethical-spiritual development, which consists of assuming and widespread practice in a real natural ethics ("land ethic"), which extend not only to all people, but the rest of living beings and inert elements that make up the world's community.

I got very curious how people live within the natural world with little casually, without thinking in their cycles, their life dramas in his great interest, intensity and diversity. For the vast majority of people, nature is a mosaic of fields, meadows, forests, rivers, mountains, lakes and seas that make up a beautiful landscape andyou provide food and water. Aldo Leopold recounts a routine bus ride through the countryside in an area of the State of Illinois, which emphasizes that he never heard any of the passengers to make any comment on the wildlife was on the other side of the window, except once a kid when he saw a flying silver Plover and exclaimed "Look dad a scholarship!" People always talk about things more logical, normal and "important" such as the mortgage bank, work, family andsports, the countryside and wildlife around them are simply "the sea bottomthrough which the currents of life take them without a clear direction. "

His message is not a fiery call to worship, but a quiet invitation to introspection: "No change has been made possible ethical never without an internal change in our intellectual emphasis, loyalties, affections and convictions. The proof that conservation has not yet touched these foundations of conduct lies in the fact that philosophy and religion have not yet heard of this. In our attempt to make conservation easy, we have become banal. "

For him (and for many more people among whom I include myself) the actual dissociation between the "humanities" and "Natural Science" is the main reason that we do not fully assimilate our true integration in nature, or be able to achieve a truly "sustainable development".

The question that arises is: Why do not really feel part of nature? Why the effort to highlight a clear line between the artificial and the natural, wild and domestic, human and otherwise? 'In my opinion, at the bottom of this worldview are deeply rooted in our Judeo-Christian, our vanity and our pride. What is already more complicated to know how much influence the genetics and evolution of the human species with respect to causes purely educational and socio-cultural. Note that this same disquisition I just asked is an example of our efforts to separate the causes of "artificial" of "natural" Is it really that important?

Aldo Leopold helped found the "Wilderness Society" and regularly wrote articles in various magazines such as "American Forests" and the "Sierra Club" (the environmental organization founded by John Muir in 1892). Finally died in 1948 at age 61, following a heart attack suffered while helping their neighbors to fight a fire of grass near his farm in Wisconsin. "A Sand County Almanac" was published posthumously without much success, but his work, his message and his example have managed to last over time. All his sons and daughters have excelled in various fields of natural sciences, and his spirit lives on in the work that sponsors and promotes the "Aldo Leopold Foundation."
